Mount and power the tablet

Put the tablet on the RAM mount where you can see and reach it, and run it off a high-amp 12 V cab charger so it lasts the day.

  • Full Automation Kit
  • Guidance Only Kit
  • DIG™ Kit

The tablet runs the Ditch Assist® app. It needs to sit where you can read it and tap it without leaning, and it must stay charged all day.

The kit includes a RAM mount made for 10-inch tablets. The tablet and its charger are not in the standard kit.

Before you start

  • An Android tablet, 10-inch or larger. The recommended tablet is the Samsung Galaxy Tab A11+ (11-inch), which can be bundled with your kit.
  • A high-amp 12 V cab charger and its cable (not in the standard kit)
  • The RAM mount from the kit, and the tools to fix its base in your cab
  • DIG™ Kit: use this same tablet for the DIG web interface and the Ditch Assist app

Time: about 10 minutes.

  1. Tablet, held sideways (landscape).
  2. Cradle that grips the tablet's edges.
  3. Arm with a knob in the middle: loosen it to angle the tablet, tighten it to lock it.
  4. Base, fixed in the cab.
  5. High-amp 12 V charger plugged into the cab's power socket.

Steps

  1. Sit in the seat and pick the spot

Sit where you drive. Choose a spot where you can see the screen while you watch the implement, and reach every part of the screen without leaning.

  2. Fix the RAM mount's base in the cab

Fix the base solidly in the spot you chose (number 4 in the drawing). It must not move when the tractor bounces.

  3. Put the tablet in the cradle, sideways

Clamp the tablet into the cradle with its long side running left to right (landscape), screen facing you. The app always runs this way round.

Check it: pull gently on the tablet. It should stay put.

  4. Angle the tablet and lock it

Loosen the knob on the arm (number 3), tilt the tablet so you can read it from the seat, then tighten the knob again.

  5. Plug in the charger

Plug the high-amp 12 V charger into the cab's 12 V socket, and its cable into the tablet's charging port. A weak charger can't keep up with the screen being on all day.

Check it: look at the battery symbol at the top of the tablet's screen, before you open the app (the app hides that top bar). A lightning bolt on the battery means it is charging.

Common mistakes

  • Using a phone or a small tablet. The app can lay out badly, crash or miss features.
  • A weak charger, so the tablet dies mid-afternoon.
