In the app Home › LiDAR & Mapping › Saved Fields / DEMs, or Map Layers › + › My LiDAR Fields

Every field you prepare is saved on the tablet with its boundary, its layers and, if you asked for it, its LiDAR elevation surface (DEM). The list of them is called My LiDAR Fields. It works offline, so open it in the cab on the module Wi-Fi.

Before you start

Time: a minute or two.

  • At least one field is prepared on this tablet (Prepare a field).
  • No internet needed.

Open a field's row

Each row has the field name and a line like 251 ac · 2.8 m/px · US: size, LiDAR detail and source (US, CANADA, or IMAGERY for an imagery-only field).

  1. Tap the arrow at the right end of the row

A small down arrow. The row opens.

A field row in My LiDAR Fields: Section 12 West, 251 ac · 2.8 m/px · US, with a down arrow at the right end 1
    1. Arrow. Opens the row.

The opened row shows:

  • A detail line adds DEM saved when the field has a saved DEM and imagery cached when its imagery is on the tablet, for example 251 ac - 2.8 m/px - DEM saved - imagery cached - US.
  • A tick box per layer: Boundary, Flow Routes, Ponding Risk, Depressions. Tick to put it on the map, untick to take it off.
  • Sliders under Ponding Risk and Depressions while they are ticked: Opacity (ponding starts at 100 %, depressions at 80 %) and, for ponding, the Ponding cutoff between Wet last and Wet first. See Read the drainage layers.
  • Drainage Planner, on fields with flow lines made on v1.5.4 or later. See Drainage Planner.
  • Delete, in red.
  • Job failed (DEM retained) with a warning sign when processing failed. The elevation is kept so support can look at it.
My LiDAR Fields row for Section 12 West opened: 251 ac · 2.8 m/px · US, the detail line with DEM saved and imagery cached, tick boxes Boundary, Flow Routes, Ponding Risk and Depressions, and Drainage Planner and Delete buttons 1 2 3 4
  1. Name and detail line. Size, detail, DEM saved, imagery cached, source.
  2. Layer tick boxes. Tick to put a layer on the map.
  3. Drainage Planner. Only on fields with flow lines.
  4. Delete. Asks first.

Put a field's layers on the map

  1. Tap a layer's tick box

In the opened row: Boundary, Flow Routes, Ponding Risk or Depressions. The layer draws on the map behind the window at once. Tap again to take it off.

You should see sliders open under Ponding Risk and Depressions once they're ticked: Opacity, and for ponding the Ponding cutoff too (Change opacity and the cutoff).

The same row with Boundary, Flow Routes, Ponding Risk and Depressions ticked: Ponding Risk shows Opacity 100% and Ponding cutoff 75 sliders, Depressions shows Opacity 80% 1 2 3
    1. Tick boxes. Ticked: the layer is on the map. All four are on here.
    2. Ponding sliders. Opacity and cutoff, shown while Ponding Risk is ticked.
    3. Depressions opacity. Starts at 80 %.
  2. Close the window

Tap the X in its top-right corner. The layers stay on the map until the app closes.

Delete a field

  1. Open the field's row

Tap the arrow at the right end of the row, as above.

  2. Tap Delete

The red button at the bottom right of the opened row. The app asks, for example, Delete North 80? This removes all layers and files for this field.

The opened Section 12 West row with Drainage Planner and a red Delete button at the bottom right 1
    1. Delete. Red, bottom right of the row. It asks first.
  3. Tap Delete in the question

A small window asks Delete North 40 Demo? (with your field's name). Tap Delete, the right-hand of the two green words at the bottom. The field disappears from the list, and its layers come off the map. Changed your mind? Tap Cancel.

Window: Delete North 40 Demo? This removes all layers and files for this field. Cancel and Delete at the bottom right, both in green. 1 2
    1. Delete. Removes the field, its layers and its files. It can't be undone.
    2. Cancel. Keeps the field.

Reuse the saved DEM offline

A field with DEM saved gives these workflows a ground surface without internet:

WhereWhat it does with the DEM
LeveePick Saved LiDAR DEM as the data source, then generate contours for levee layout.
Contour TilingPick Saved LiDAR DEM as the surface for the contours you survey and design along.
Contour-Guided TerracingSame: Saved LiDAR DEM as the contour surface.
Survey and grade mapsThe height button reads LiDAR elevation where you tap. See Check LiDAR elevation.

Generating contours needs a connected control module or an activated Ditch Assist Lite receiver. A DIG™ module or a Bluetooth GPS can't generate or follow contours. The steps below use Levee; Contour Tiling and Contour-Guided Terracing have the same Saved LiDAR DEM button in their own data-source step.

  1. Open Levee and connect

On Home, tap the Levee card and connect to your kit (Connect to your kit). The Contour Guidance choices appear.

  2. Tap Use Existing Data

The second choice. The Levee screen shows its Contour Guidance panel.

Levee window: Contour Guidance with the two choices Survey New Field and Use Existing Data 1
    1. Use Existing Data. Import a DEM, LiDAR, saved survey, or job.
  3. Tap Saved LiDAR DEM

The blue-green button under Or use existing data, fourth from the left. A list called Saved LiDAR DEM opens.

Levee screen with the Contour Guidance panel: Survey New Field, then a row of buttons under Or use existing data: Saved Survey, Point File, GeoTIFF DEM, Saved LiDAR DEM, Open LiDAR and Mapping
    1. Saved LiDAR DEM. Lists the fields with a saved DEM. The button next to it, Open LiDAR & Mapping, fetches a new one (needs internet).
  4. Tap the field

Each field is listed with its size and detail, for example 251 ac · 2.8 m/px. A window called Contour Settings opens.

Saved LiDAR DEM list row: Section 12 West, 251 ac · 2.8 m/px, and Cancel 1
    1. The saved DEM. Tap it.
  5. Tap Generate

Contour Settings shows the DEM size and elevation range, the contour interval (3 in by default) and smoothing. Leave them unless you know you need others, and tap Generate at the bottom right. Then carry on as the workflow guide says (Levee contours).

Contour Settings window: DEM size and elevation range, Contour Interval choices with 3 inches selected, Custom inches, Smoothing 50% Medium, estimated contours, Cancel and Generate 1
    1. Generate. Draws the contours from the saved DEM.

No saved DEM yet? The app says No saved LiDAR DEMs found. Use LiDAR & Mapping while online to save one first. Prepare the field at home (Prepare a field) or use a field survey instead.

Good to know

  • Layers you tick go on the map until the app closes. Next session, tick them again.
  • Fields are kept in Documents/DitchAssist/lidar-fields/, one folder per field plus a fields.json list. Always delete fields in the app, not with a file manager, so the list stays right.
  • With Field Mode on, new LiDAR fields are tagged to the active field like your surveys and jobs.
