Settings: Mode, Display and Units

The top of Settings, and how to change each row: Mode (Ditch Assist or Ditch Assist Lite) and the Ditch Assist Lite card, Handedness, Display Mode (Dark or Sunlight), Language / Idioma, and UNITS (Feet + Inches, Decimal Feet or Metric).

In the app Settings › Mode · DISPLAY · UNITS

The first three cards on the Settings screen decide how the app runs and how it looks: which kit it is set up for, which side the big buttons sit on, the colours, the language and the units. Changes apply straight away and are remembered, even after the tablet is switched off.

Before you start

  • The Ditch Assist® app is open. Any screen will do.
  • Each change takes under a minute. There is no Save button: every change saves itself.
  • To change Mode, stop grading first. The app won't switch modes while the blade or guidance is running.
  • Never changed a setting before? How to change a setting shows each kind of button up close.

Find these cards

  1. Tap Settings

In the column of big buttons down the right-hand edge of the screen, tap Settings: the fourth button from the top, with a gear icon. (On the Survey or Grade screen, tap the wrench at the right end of the top bar instead.)

The Home screen with the column of big buttons down the right edge: Home, Survey, Grade, Settings with a gear icon, Manual, Pre-Flight Checks.
    1. Settings. Fourth button down, gear icon.
  2. Look at the top three cards

The Settings screen opens at the top. Mode, DISPLAY and UNITS are the first three cards. No scrolling needed. Each card's name is in small grey letters at its top-left corner.

The top of the Settings screen: the Mode card, the DISPLAY card with Handedness, Display Mode and Language rows, and the UNITS card.
    1. Mode. First card.
    2. DISPLAY. Second card.
    3. UNITS. Third card.

Mode

The Mode card is one wide button split in two halves. The half in use is orange.

  • Ditch Assist: For machines with a Ditch Assist control module or DIG excavator module — including guidance-only use with any RTK receiver connected through the module. Use it for the Full Automation Kit, the Guidance Only Kit and the DIG™ Kit. It is the default on a new install, and an app update keeps the mode you picked.
  • Ditch Assist Lite: Guidance only — no hydraulic control. Emlid Reach receivers only. For an activated Emlid Reach on the implement. Every workflow runs; you move the blade yourself.
The Mode card: a wide rounded button split in two. The left half, Ditch Assist, is orange because it is in use. The right half reads Ditch Assist Lite. 1 2
  1. Ditch Assist. Control module or DIG™ module. Orange here: in use.
  2. Ditch Assist Lite. Emlid Reach on the implement, guidance only.

Switch to the other mode

  1. Stop grading first

If the blade or the guidance is running, go to the Grade screen and tap Stop. Otherwise the app refuses, with a red message along the bottom of the screen: Stop grading before switching mode.

  2. Tap the half you want

In the Mode card at the top of Settings, tap Ditch Assist Lite (the right half) or Ditch Assist (the left half). When the switch is done, that half is orange.

  3. If a window asks, tap Switch

If anything is connected (control module, DIG module, Reach, Bluetooth receiver or the simulator), a window called Switch mode? opens: Switching mode disconnects the current source. Tap Switch, the right-hand button. Cancel keeps the mode you had.

A window titled Switch mode? with the text Switching mode disconnects the current source, and two buttons: Cancel and Switch. 1
    1. Switch. Disconnects and changes the mode.
  4. Switching to Ditch Assist Lite: read the guide, tap OK

A window called Set up your Reach opens with three short steps for the receiver, the tablet and the app. Read it, then tap the green OK at its bottom right. The same guide is under Setup guide in the Ditch Assist Lite card. Full instructions: Set up the Reach for Ditch Assist Lite.

The Set up your Reach window: 1. On the Reach (Emlid Flow app), 2. On this tablet, 3. In Ditch Assist, each with a short paragraph, and a green OK button at the bottom right. 1
    1. OK. Closes the guide.
  5. Pick your workflow card again

Switching disconnects everything and takes Home back to the cards with nothing picked. Tap Home in the sidebar and tap the card for your job.

In Ditch Assist Lite you should see an orange strip above the cards: LITE MODE Guidance only — no hydraulic control. Back in Ditch Assist mode, the strip is gone.

An orange-outlined strip with a satellite icon: LITE MODE, Guidance only — no hydraulic control.
The LITE MODE strip at the top of Home. See The Home screen.

The Ditch Assist Lite card

In Ditch Assist Lite, a second card called Ditch Assist Lite appears right under Mode. It lists the receivers activated on this tablet and has two buttons.

The Mode card with Ditch Assist Lite in orange, and under it the Ditch Assist Lite card: Activated receivers, one row with a green tick reading Reach RS3 · …C777 · 2026-10-17 and a red Remove at the end, then the buttons Activate a receiver and Setup guide. 2 3
  1. Remove. Red, at the end of a receiver's row.
  2. Activate a receiver. Enter the unlock code for a Reach.
  3. Setup guide. Opens the Set up your Reach window again.
  • Each receiver row has a green tick, the receiver type, the last 4 characters of its serial number (or of its Wi-Fi address) and the date it was activated, for example Reach RS3 · …C777 · 2026-10-17. With no receiver yet, the card says None yet.
  • Revoked at the end of a row, with a red symbol instead of the tick, means the licence was withdrawn. Contact Ditch Assist support.
  • Remove opens a window called Remove this receiver?. Tap the red Remove in it to confirm, or Cancel. A removed receiver needs its unlock code again.
  • Activate a receiver: full steps in Activate a receiver.

Lite mode also hides the cards and rows that only exist to move a blade: CONTROLLER, Pre-Start Safety, DIG Module Firmware, Rock Hit Detection and Send Commands. Everything else stays.

Display

The second card, DISPLAY, has three rows: Handedness, Display Mode and Language / Idioma.

Handedness

Position of main controls sidebar. The sidebar is the column of big buttons (Home, Start, Hold, Nudge…). Right puts it on the right-hand edge of the screen; Left puts it on the left. Pick the side your hand reaches from your seat. The Grade screen's depth guide moves with it.

To change it: tap Left or Right, the two buttons at the right-hand end of the first row of DISPLAY. The one in use is filled black. The sidebar jumps to that side straight away.

The DISPLAY card: Handedness with Left and Right buttons (Right filled black), Display Mode with Dark and Sunlight (Sunlight filled black), and Language / Idioma showing English with a small triangle.
  1. Left, Right. Right is filled black: the sidebar is on the right.

You should see the column of big buttons on the side you picked. Here it is on the left:

  2. Left filled black.
  • Default: Right.
  • Shown: every kit and mode.

Display Mode

Dark theme or bright Sunlight mode for outdoor use.

  • Sunlight (default): white background, high contrast. Use it in an open cab or in bright sun.
  • Dark: dark background. Easier on the eyes in a shaded cab or at night. The blade marker and the guide's border turn yellow.

To change it: tap Dark or Sunlight, the two buttons at the right-hand end of the second row of DISPLAY. The one in use is filled black. Every screen changes colour straight away.

Language / Idioma

Changes every screen of the app, and the built-in manual, to English, Espanol or Portugues. The manual screen also has its own language button if you want to read it in another language.

  1. Tap the language name

In the third row of DISPLAY, tap the word English (or the language now in use), with a small triangle (▾) after it, at the right-hand end of the row.

The DISPLAY card; the Language / Idioma row shows English followed by a small downward triangle.
    1. English ▾. Tap it to open the list.
  2. Tap a language

A short list opens with English, Espanol and Portugues. Tap one. The list closes and every screen switches language straight away.

  • Default: English.
  • Shown: every kit and mode.

Units

The third card, UNITS (Applies to all distances, elevations, and errors), has three buttons: Feet + Inches on top, Decimal Feet and Metric under it.

To change it: tap the button you want. It turns black and the other two go white. Every number in the app changes straight away.

The three UNITS buttons: Feet + Inches on top, filled black because it is in use; Decimal Feet and Metric underneath, white. 1 2 3
  1. Feet + Inches. The default. Black here: in use.
  2. Decimal Feet. Small numbers in tenths of a foot.
  3. Metric. Metres and centimetres.

You should see your choice filled black, for example after tapping Metric:

The three UNITS buttons with Metric filled black and Feet + Inches and Decimal Feet white.
Metric in use.
  • Feet + Inches (default): elevations and distances in feet; small numbers (cut/fill, nudge, blade height, chevron step, depths) in inches.
  • Decimal Feet: elevations and distances in feet as before; the small numbers also in feet, to two decimals. A 2.0 in error reads 0.17 ft, a 24 in blade height 2.00 ft, a 3 in chevron step 0.25 ft. Sliders and ± buttons move in 0.05 or 0.1 ft steps. Switching into Decimal Feet snaps Inches Per Chevron, Nudge Sensitivity, Max Cut Depth and Grade Alert Threshold to the nearest 0.05 ft (a 2 in nudge becomes 0.15 ft, about 1.8 in); switching back to Feet + Inches keeps the snapped value.
  • Metric: metres, centimetres, km/h, m³. Switching to or from Metric rounds Nudge Sensitivity and Max Cut Depth to a tidy value (2 in becomes 5 cm).
  • Shown: every kit and mode.

Logs always record inches, whatever you display, so support reads the same numbers either way.
