Sidebars: every button

The big buttons down the side of the screen change with the screen you're on. Every button in the main menu and the Survey, Grade, Field Survey, Levee and LiDAR & Mapping sidebars, what Ditch Assist Lite leaves out, and how to move or resize the sidebar.

In the app The column of buttons on the right of the screen (left with Handedness = Left)

The sidebar is the column of big buttons at the edge of the screen. Home is always at the top; the rest change with the screen you're on, so the buttons you need are the ones in front of you. Buttons go grey when they can't be used yet.

Before you start

  • Ditch Assist open on the tablet. To press a button, tap it once with your fingertip. Raise and Lower are the exception: keep your finger on them for as long as you want the implement to move.
  • The pictures below show the sidebar on the right of the screen, where it starts. If yours is on the left, someone has changed Handedness; see Move or resize the sidebar.
  • Not every button shows at once. Each picture names the buttons in it; the list under it covers the ones that only appear at other moments.
The right-hand edge of Home with a workflow active: the main menu sidebar with Home, Survey, Grade, Settings, Manual and an orange Pre-Flight Checks 1 2 3 4
  1. Home.
  2. Survey and Grade. Grey until you pick a workflow card.
  3. Settings and Manual.
  4. Pre-Flight Checks.
  • Home: the workflow cards. From the Grade screen while auto grading, it asks Stop Auto-Grading? first.
  • Survey: the active workflow's Survey screen. Grey until you pick a card.
  • Grade: the active workflow's Grade screen. Grey until you pick a card.
  • Settings: see Settings.
  • Manual: the full operator's manual built into the app, with its own language switch. Same chapters as the online app manual.
  • Pre-Flight Checks (orange): connection, GPS quality, corrections and, with a control module, hold-to-move Raise / Lower to test the valve. Connect, change or disconnect from here. See Pre-Flight Checks.
  • Active field chip (Field Mode on): the field you're working in, or Unfiled. Tap to switch, add or rename fields.

Survey sidebar

The right-hand edge of the Survey screen while recording: the sidebar shows IQ Survey, Field Survey, a red Stop, Drive and Shots, Pause, Slope-IQ, and Reset and Load greyed 1 2 3 4 5 6
  1. IQ Survey / Field Survey. View with or without the profile chart.
  2. Start / Stop.
  3. Drive / Shots.
  4. Pause / Resume (Drive) or Log Point and Grade Check (Shots).
  5. Slope-IQ. Design from this survey.
  6. Reset / Load. Grey while recording.
  • IQ Survey / Field Survey: map plus profile chart, or a full-height map. The Ready to Survey card shows in both until you start or skip it.
  • Start / Stop: begin and end recording. Hidden while the Ready to Survey card is up (use its START SURVEY) and during a guided recording (use STOP on the map). Stop opens Save Survey?.
  • Drive / Shots: a point every Recording Interval, or one point per tap.
  • Pause / Resume: skip an obstacle without ending the survey.
  • Log Point: log a shot here (Point 63 logged; No usable GPS fix — point not logged if the fix isn't good enough).
  • Grade Check: shoot point A, move, shoot B, read the grade.
  • Slope-IQ (Ditching and the other survey workflows), Tile Design (Tiling), Grade Design (Simple Grading): open the designer on the survey. Asks Replace Current Design? if one is loaded.
  • Reset: Reset All? clears survey, design, grading progress and coverage and returns to Home; the workflow stays active. Saved files stay.
  • Load: saved surveys and designs, with Import, Export and delete.

How to use them: Survey a route, Survey a run you can't drive.

Grade sidebar

The right-hand edge of the Grade screen while auto grading: the sidebar shows a red Stop, Hold, the AUTO-NUDGE group with Max Cut 2.0, Pass +, Pass 1 of 6 and Pass −, then Raise and Lower 1 2 3 4
  1. Start / Stop.
  2. Hold / Resume while grading; Reset (and Resume for saved jobs) when stopped.
  3. AUTO-NUDGE pass buttons, or Nudge Up / Down.
  4. Raise / Lower. Hold to move the valve.
  • Start: begins auto grading (Lite mode: guidance). Grey until there is a design or target. It may ask first: Pre-Start Safety warnings, Tiling's depth check (Lower 6" to start), Manual Grade's Ready to Start?. Turns into Stop, which halts the valve and autosaves the job.
  • Hold / Resume: while grading, Hold stops valve commands and leaves the guidance running; Resume carries on. Not in Excavation or Ditch Assist Lite.
  • Reset (stopped): Reset All? and back to Home. Saved files stay.
  • Resume (nothing loaded): opens Resume Job, the list of autosaved jobs.
  • Nudge Up / Nudge Down with the nudge amount between them: move the target by Nudge Sensitivity per tap.
  • AUTO-NUDGE group (Auto-Nudge on): Max Cut, Pass +, Pass 1 of 6, Pass −.
  • Raise / Lower: drive the valve while you hold the button. Full Automation Kit only in effect; hidden in Excavation and Lite mode.
  • Channel / Berm (Terracing): pick the terrace target; the live one says ACTIVE.
  • Change Grade (Manual Grade, Excavation grade), Change Target (Leveling, Excavation Dig Level Area), Clear Marks (Excavation completion grid).
  • Grade sound button and the DIG logo (Excavation).

In Ditch Assist Lite

The Grade sidebar keeps Start / Stop, Reset, Resume, the nudge or pass buttons and the workflow buttons, and drops everything that moves a blade: no Hold, Resume (after hold), Raise or Lower. To switch a terrace target, Stop first.

The right-hand edge of the Grade screen with Ditch Assist Lite guidance running: sidebar with Stop, Change Grade, Nudge Up, 0 inches and Nudge Down, and no Hold, Raise or Lower 1 2
  1. Stop, no Hold.
  2. Nudge; no Raise or Lower.

Field Survey sidebar

On the whole-field survey screen (Levee, contour workflows, Forming's Survey Field).

The right-hand edge of the Field Survey screen while recording: sidebar with Pause, Log Point Here, Benchmark (1), Swath: 120 ft, Clear AB, Finish & Save (22) and Cancel 1 2 3 4
  1. Pause and Log Point Here.
  2. Benchmark (1).
  3. Swath and the AB line.
  4. Finish & Save / Cancel.
  • Start / Pause / Resume: record points every Recording Interval, RTK only.
  • Log Point Here: force a point where you are.
  • Benchmark (N): drop a benchmark here or calibrate to one nearby.
  • Swath: 120 ft: pass spacing for AB lines. Set A / Set B lay the line; Cancel AB / Clear AB remove it.
  • Finish & Save (N): end and save (needs 10 or more points).
  • Cancel: quit; with points recorded it asks before discarding them.

See Field Survey.

Levee sidebar

The right-hand edge of the Levee screen following a contour: sidebar with Start, Next Contour, Deselect, Edit Boundary, Clear Boundary, Save Levee job and Clear All 1 2 3 4
  1. Start / Next Contour.
  2. Deselect.
  3. Edit / Clear Boundary.
  4. Save job / Clear All.

Before contours exist the Levee sidebar offers the elevation sources: Import DEM, LiDAR, Load Survey, Points, Drive to Map (Done (N pts) to finish) and Load Job. With contours drawn: Select Nearest, Start / Stop (follow and record the build track), Next Contour, Deselect, Edit Boundary / Clear Boundary (with Undo / Cancel while drawing), Save Job (or Save "name") and Clear All. Levee is steering guidance only on every kit. See Levee & Contour.

LiDAR & Mapping sidebar

The right-hand edge of the LiDAR and Mapping screen: the sidebar shows New field, Saved Fields… and Done 1 2 3
  1. New field.
  2. Saved Fields / DEMs (cut short on screen).
  3. Done.
  • The main action for the job you chose: Prepare Field, Cache Imagery, Save DEM or Generate Products, once a boundary is drawn.
  • Undo (last corner) and Clear (the boundary) while drawing.
  • New field, Saved Fields / DEMs, Done (leave LiDAR & Mapping).

See Prepare a field.

Move or resize the sidebar

  • Left or right: tap Settings in the sidebar, find the DISPLAY card and tap Left or Right next to Handedness. The sidebar moves straight away; there is nothing to save. Right is the default. Pictures: Handedness.
  • Width: put your finger on the thin line on the sidebar's right-hand edge and slide it sideways without lifting. The sidebar starts at its widest; drag left to narrow it (down to about two-thirds of the full width) and right to widen it again. With the sidebar on the right of the screen that line is at the very edge of the screen. The width is remembered.
  • Icons only: dragged narrow, the buttons switch to a compact icon layout, leaving more room for the map.
