Typical installations: land leveler and pull-type scraper
Where the valve, Control Module and antenna usually go on a land leveler and on a pull-type scraper, with drawings and a photo of a real install.
- Full Automation Kit
- Guidance Only Kit
The Control Module and the valve usually go near the hitch, either on the implement you are controlling or at the back of the tractor. The power harness always goes straight to the tractor battery. The GPS antenna sits raised on the implement, where it moves up and down with the cutting edge.
Here is how that works out on the two most common machines, in Ditch Assist® installs. With the Guidance Only Kit it is the same, without the valve.
Before you start
- The implement lowered, the tractor engine off and the key out, before you measure up or mark mounting spots
- Walk the hose and cable routes with the implement turned hard both ways, and raised and lowered
Nothing to fit on this page: it shows where the parts from the other install pages end up.
Land leveler
- Valve on the tongue, a few feet from the hitch point (Full Automation Kit).
- Control Module on the tongue, or anywhere else with a clear line of sight to the cab.
- GPS antenna on top of the implement, raised on a mount if parts of the implement hang over it or the tractor blocks its view of the sky.
- Power harness straight to the tractor battery.
- Hoses to the tractor's rear remotes, with slack at the hitch.
Valve on the tongue
Mount the valve on the implement's tongue, a few feet from the hitch point (Full Automation Kit).
Control Module on the tongue
On the tongue, or anywhere else with a clear line of sight to the cab, on the magnetic mounts or a bracket you make.
Antenna on top of the implement
Put the GPS receiver on top of the implement. Raise it on a mount if parts of the implement hang over it. Raise it too if the implement sits so low that the tractor blocks its view of the sky.
A real land leveler install:
1
2
3
- Valve and hoses on the tongue, a few feet from the hitch.
- Control Module on the tongue, in sight of the cab, with its cables tied along the frame.
- Hoses to the tractor's remotes, with slack at the hitch for turns.
Pull-type scraper
- Valve on the tongue, on the supplied bracket or one you make (Full Automation Kit).
- Control Module on the tongue. If the Wi-Fi is weak there, move it up the upright part of the scraper frame.
- GPS antenna on a mast, so it moves with the cutting edge and stays above the metal around it at full lower.
- Power harness straight to the tractor battery.
- Hoses to the tractor's rear remotes, with slack at the hitch.
Valve on the tongue
On the supplied bracket or one you make (Full Automation Kit).
Control Module on the tongue
If the Wi-Fi is weak, move it up the upright part of the scraper frame, where it has a better view of the tractor cab.
Antenna on a mast
Mount the GPS receiver so it moves with the cutting edge. That usually takes a mast, to keep it above the metal around it when the scraper is fully lowered.
The antenna on both machines
- On the implement. A rigid mast on the part that rises and falls with the cutting edge.
- Clear sky above 15°. All the way round, with the implement at its lowest working position. A taller mast may be needed.
- Not on the cab roof. The tractor doesn't follow the cutting edge.
- Not on the tongue. It doesn't follow the cutting edge either.
Common mistakes
- The antenna on the scraper's front frame or tongue, which doesn't follow the cutting edge.
- The module behind the bowl, out of sight of the cab.
- Hoses cut to length for straight-ahead driving, then stretched on the first headland turn.
