Choosing the Mode

Ditch Assist Lite chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.

In the app Manual › Ditch Assist Lite › Choosing the Mode

The app runs in one of two modes, chosen at the very top of the Settings screen in the Mode section:

  • Ditch Assist — the standard app. Drives the blade through a Ditch Assist control module, or reads bucket-tip position from the DIG module. This is the default on every install and update.
  • Ditch Assist Lite — guidance only, from an Emlid Reach receiver. A hint under the buttons reminds you: Guidance only — no hydraulic control. Emlid Reach receivers only.

Switching

  1. Open Settings. The Mode section is first.
  2. Tap Ditch Assist Lite (or Ditch Assist to go back).
  3. If something is connected — a control module, the DIG module, a Reach, a Bluetooth receiver, or the simulator — a Switch mode? prompt says Switching mode disconnects the current source. Tap Switch to continue or Cancel to stay.
  4. Every source is disconnected and the active workflow is cleared; you stay on Settings. When you go back to Home you pick a workflow again under the new mode.
  5. Switching to Lite also opens the Set up your Reach guide — it opens each time you switch to Lite. You can also open it any time from Settings → Ditch Assist Lite → Setup guide.

What changes on screen in Lite

  • Home: an orange LITE MODE banner (Guidance only — no hydraulic control) heads the screen, above the workflow cards. Every workflow card opens as usual — see Every workflow works in Lite.
  • Connect step: exactly two choices — a filled Emlid Reach button that connects to the Reach, then Simulate. The generic Connect button, Bluetooth GPS, the control module and DIG cards and Manual Options are gone.
  • Grade sidebar: START / STOP and Reset. Raise / Lower and Hold / Resume are hidden — there is nothing to hold. Nudge Up / Nudge Down stay, swapped for Pass + / Pass − while Auto-Nudge is on, the same as in Ditch Assist. In Terracing the Channel / Berm selector stays; while guidance is running, tap STOP before switching the target (Stop guidance before switching the target.).
  • Auto-Nudge works as in Ditch Assist: the Auto Nudge switch in the stats bar and in Settings → GRADING, Max Cut Depth, and the Auto-Nudge Mode prompt after you implement a design. It only sets the target you steer to. If you prefer, turn it off and take the cut in stages with manual nudge instead.
  • No Pre-Start Safety dialog — it exists to protect a hydraulic start, and Lite has none. The Designed for a different kit reminder appears only for Excavation (see Excavation in Lite).
  • Settings: the CONTROLLER, DIG MODULE FIRMWARE, and PRE-START SAFETY sections are hidden, along with the Rock Hit Detection row in GRADING and the Send Commands row in DEBUG. Max Cut Depth, Auto Nudge, chevron scale, nudge increment, the excavator rows, alerts, units, map, and everything else stay. A Ditch Assist Lite section appears directly below MODE.
  • Pre-Flight Checks: shows Emlid Reach RS3 · Lite active (green) or · Not activated (amber), a Guidance only — no hydraulic control line, and no Raise / Lower test buttons.

Switching back to Ditch Assist restores all of it.
