Calibration methods
Benchmark Reference chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.
In the app Manual › Benchmark Reference › Calibration methods
Tap the BM badge in the top stats bar to open the Calibrate Elevation sheet.
Status line
At the top, a status line in words (no numbers) tells you where you stand: green "Calibrated to benchmark ... · 4 min ago", amber "Restored from ... — recalibrate before working", or grey "Not calibrated — elevations are raw GPS". Tap Details to see the offset value and its source, for support calls.
Reference rows
Below the status line, one row appears for each reference you can calibrate to right now, nearest first:
- Benchmark rows — your saved benchmarks (cyan flag) and, in Land Forming, AGD Design BM pins. Tap a row: a drive-to card guides you in — "Drive 23 ft to the benchmark" (blue) → "Almost there" (amber, within ~10 ft) → "On the benchmark — lower blade and calibrate" (green). Lower the implement, hold still, tap Calibrate; the app averages 5 seconds of RTK. Calibrating while still metres away asks you to confirm.
- Loaded survey row — available when a survey is loaded; shows the nearest surveyed point's distance. Lower the implement, tap Calibrate (5s avg).
- Loaded design row — available when a design is loaded, using the design's terrain points. Switch Surveyed ground → Design grade inside the row when the section is already cut to grade, so the app uses the design elevation there instead (it refuses beyond 50 m off the design line: Too far from the design line — move onto the run first).
Advanced
Open Advanced at the bottom of the sheet for the rare cases:
- Type a known elevation and confirm — the offset is computed instantly as known elevation − current GPS (a single reading, no 5-second average). Useful when a survey crew gave you the elevation of the spot you're standing on. (To re-type a previously recorded offset directly, use Settings → SURVEY → Benchmark Offset → Open calibration instead, which lands on this same Advanced field.)
- Zero to current GPS — sets the offset to zero after you confirm, so displayed elevations equal raw GPS altitude (the benchmark matches current GPS). Use it when you want to work directly in the GPS frame.
- Clear — resets the offset to zero the same way, with its own confirmation. Use this only if you want the app to display raw GPS altitudes (rare).
- Manage benchmarks — opens the Benchmarks panel to set, rename, delete, or move a saved benchmark. See Saved benchmarks below for the full flow.
