Saved benchmarks

Benchmark Reference chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.

In the app Manual › Benchmark Reference › Saved benchmarks

A saved benchmark is a spot you mark once and return to on any later day to re-establish the same elevation reference — even after the RTK base has moved, been replaced, or rebooted. It's the practical way to keep a multi-day or multi-visit job matching from one session to the next.

Saving a benchmark

  1. Park on a spot you can find again (field entrance, culvert, fence corner) and lower the implement so the cutting edge rests on the ground.
  2. Tap the BM badge → Manage benchmarks → Set Benchmark here.
  3. Name it (the app suggests "BM 1", "BM 2", ...) and tap Save.
  4. Hold still for 5 seconds while the app averages both the position and the elevation. A green Benchmark saved confirms it. If it couldn't collect enough RTK fixes, it says No RTK samples collected. Check GPS fix. and nothing is saved.

Set Benchmark here is disabled until you have a GPS fix.

Recalibrating to a saved benchmark

  1. Open the Calibrate Elevation sheet (tap the BM badge). Saved benchmarks appear as reference rows, nearest-first, each showing its stored elevation and live distance.
  2. Tap the benchmark row you want. The sheet switches to a drive-to card.
  3. Drive to it. The card changes with distance: Drive {distance} to the benchmark (blue, more than ~3 m) → Almost there — {distance} to the pin (amber, within ~3 m / 10 ft) → On the benchmark — lower blade and calibrate (green, within ~0.5 m / 1.5 ft).
  4. On the pin (green), lower the implement to the ground, hold still, and tap Calibrate (5s avg). You can also tap Calibrate Anyway (5s avg) before you're on the pin if you know your position is good — it asks you to confirm first.
  5. The app averages 5 seconds and applies the offset. The status line then reads "Calibrated to benchmark '{name}' · just now".

Managing saved benchmarks

Open the Benchmarks panel (BM badge → Manage benchmarks). Each saved benchmark has a menu (three dots) with Rename and Delete. (With Field Mode on, it also has Move to Field — see Field Mode.)

On the map

Saved benchmarks show as cyan flags with their name, drawn over the map. They're on by default; hide them from the map's Layers dialog with the Benchmarks toggle (Saved benchmark flags on the map).
