What this mode is for

Contour Tiling is a variant of Tiling for laying a tile line that follows the natural lay of the land. Instead of surveying a straight line and designing from it, you let the app draw the field's contour lines, drive your tile route along the contour the app highlights, and build the tile design from the route you actually drove.

The big idea in one sentence: the contour guides the survey, and the route you drive is the truth the install follows. A true contour is dead level, so driving along one keeps the tile at a steady depth as the ground rolls. You can drift off it where you need fall — the app records wherever you go.

Use Contour Tiling when:

  • You want the tile to follow the shape of the field rather than a chord across it.
  • You have (or can collect) a surface map of the whole field, not just one line.
  • You're laying grassed waterway tile, contour tile, or any line where "follow the slope" beats "shortest path."

You need a field surface first. Contour lines can't be drawn from a single tile line — the app needs an elevation surface that covers the field (its high and low spots), the same kind of surface the Levee tools use. Contour Tiling uses the same DEM-source choices as Levee: survey a field, load a saved survey, load a saved LiDAR DEM, import a point file, or import a GeoTIFF DEM. If you do not already have LiDAR on disk, use LiDAR & Mapping while online to fetch and save the DEM first, then reconnect to the controller and choose Saved LiDAR DEM.

Workflow at a glance:

  1. Connect to the controller.
  2. Tap the Tiling card, then choose Contour Tiling.
  3. Get a field surface — load a saved LiDAR DEM, saved survey, point file, GeoTIFF, or survey the field.
  4. The app draws the contour lines on the map.
  5. Drive near the contour you want. It auto-highlights.
  6. Start the survey — the highlighted contour locks. Drive the tile line, steering with the lightbar.
  7. Stop. Build the tile design from the route you drove.
  8. Calibrate the BM, then Start to install — the app steers you back along your saved route while the blade holds tile depth.
