Designing the terrace
Contour-Guided Terracing chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.
In the app Manual › Contour-Guided Terracing › Designing the terrace
Once both surveys are in, the standard Terrace design dialog opens — the same multi-step dialog as standard Terracing, and everything in the Terracing chapter's The Terrace design dialog page applies here. The contour and zone are layout context only; the design math is unchanged.
You still step through:
- Channel Design — set Depth Offset, Min Grade, Channel Base Width, Side Slope against your driven channel line. The Auto side-slope button and the chart behave exactly as standard Terracing.
- Berm Analysis — the dialog re-stations your berm survey onto the channel centerline and shows where fill is needed to bring the berm up to the Min Berm Line. The volume strip reports cut, fill needed, and cut-required-with-compaction.
- Auto-Balance — if the channel cut is short of the compaction-adjusted fill, tap Auto-Balance to deepen the channel until the volumes match.
- Min Berm Height (BERM MIN HT) — set per design (default 18″, range 6–36″ / 15–90 cm; persists as the next default), same as standard Terracing. Compaction is not adjustable — it is a fixed 15% factor in this build.
What's saved
When you tap Implement Slope, the terrace design saves with your channel and berm routes (as always) plus the contour and zone you laid it out in — the contour you followed, the zone width, and which side is uphill. That layout context comes back if you resume the job later, so the zone can be redrawn as reference during the install.
Tap Implement Slope, calibrate the BM if prompted, and move to the Grade screen.
