The Terrace Zone
Contour-Guided Terracing chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.

The Terrace Zone is the heart of this mode — the shaded corridor you lay the terrace out inside.
Setting the width
Before the contours are drawn, the wizard asks for the zone width. Default is 12 m total (6 m each side of the contour). If your implement swath is wider, the app pre-fills that wider number so the band matches your reach. Make it narrower for a tight terrace, wider to give yourself room to shape the channel and berm. The width you pick is saved with the design.
Reading the band on the map
After the surface loads, the app highlights the nearest contour and paints the zone around it:
- The uphill side shades one color (warm/amber).
- The downhill side shades another (cool/blue).
- If the app can't tell which way the slope runs (very flat ground, or no slope data), it shades the band a neutral grey and treats the position readout as best-effort — that's the slope unknown case.
The channel runs roughly down the middle of the zone; the berm goes on the downhill (blue) side.
The zone-position readout
While you survey, a readout near the top of the screen tells you where you are in the corridor:
- UPHILL — you're toward the uphill edge of the zone.
- CENTER — you're on or near the contour centerline.
- DOWNHILL — you're toward the downhill edge.
- OUTSIDE ZONE — you've wandered out of the corridor. The readout turns red with a warning icon. Steer back inside.
Next to the position, while recording, the readout shows two live numbers:
- DROP — how much your route has fallen from where you started to where you are now. This is the outlet fall you're building.
- A→B GRADE — that drop as a percent over the distance driven. A quick check that you're picking up enough fall to drain.
This is guidance, not a steering lockbar — it doesn't try to pull you onto an exact line. You decide the channel path inside the corridor; the readout just keeps you honest about staying in the zone and building fall.
