Grading the terrace

Terracing chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.

In the app Manual › Terracing › Grading the terrace

The Grade screen for Terracing has the same layout as Ditching but with large Channel / Berm selectors in the sidebar. The profile chart keeps both targets visible: the active target is bright and thick, while the inactive target is gray and dashed. You can also tap near either profile line to select it. The chart badge and sidebar selector update together.

For safety, switch targets only while stopped or on an operator Hold — the one you put on yourself by tapping HOLD. A target tap or selector tap during live automatic grading tells you to tap HOLD first.

Channel and berm worked surfaces are recorded separately, including manual berm work while held, so berm work never paints over the channel history.

To grade the channel (cut phase):

  1. With the toggle on Channel, drive to the channel start. Lower the blade.
  2. Tap Start. The blade follows the channel cut profile.
  3. Drive end-to-end, possibly multiple passes (Auto-Nudge applies if cuts are deep).
  4. Tap Stop when the channel is at grade.

Channel phase active — the Channel/Berm toggle in the sidebar is set to Channel and the profile chart shows the channel cut target.

To switch to the berm (fill phase):

  1. Tap the large Berm selector in the sidebar, or tap near the berm line on the profile. The blade target switches to the berm-build profile.
  2. Drive to the berm start. Lower the implement.
  3. Tap Start. The blade now follows the berm-fill profile (filling instead of cutting).
  4. Drive end-to-end. Multiple passes if the fill is deep.

Auto-Nudge

Works on both halves. Channel passes cut progressively to grade; berm passes build up progressively. Use Pass + / Pass − to advance.

In Simple Maintenance the berm is different: because no berm ground was surveyed, there is no existing berm surface to peel staged passes off. The berm grades straight to its final design target in one go, and staged passes apply only to the channel. Take the berm in as many machine passes as the material needs — the target simply stays at the finished berm elevation.

Hold, Stop, Reset

Same as every grading mode. Hold pauses commands; Stop halts; Reset clears the active design.

The stats bar

When grading the channel: Current Target is the channel cut elevation. When toggled to the berm: Current Target is the berm fill elevation. The BM badge applies to both phases.
