Before you start
Contour Tiling chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.
In the app Manual › Contour Tiling › Before you start
Contour Tiling needs more than the other modes, because it works from a surface map of the whole field:
- RTK Fixed GPS.
- Controller connection. Drawing and following contours needs a controller or the built-in simulator — Bluetooth-only GPS can survey but cannot generate or steer to contours. If you tap a contour action without a controller or simulator, the app tells you a controller is required.
- Blade height correct.
- A field surface — preferably a saved LiDAR DEM prepared in LiDAR & Mapping, or a GeoTIFF / point file / saved survey / new field survey.
What "a field surface" means
A tile-line survey is a single line. Contour lines are drawn from an area — the app needs to know the elevation across the whole field to figure out where level lines run. That area map is the field surface. You only build it once per field; after that you can survey as many tile lines along its contours as you like.
About direction and depth
Contour Tiling still installs tile uphill from the outlet, same as standard Tiling. The contour keeps you at a steady depth; where you need drainage fall, you intentionally drift downhill off the contour toward the outlet. The tile design dialog still figures out the outlet and holds your minimum grade.
About Auto-Nudge
Like standard Tiling, Contour Tiling is single-pass — no Auto-Nudge. Once the trench is at depth, the pipe goes in.
