Quick start

Contour Tiling chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.

In the app Manual › Contour Tiling › Quick start

  1. Tap the Tiling card on the Home screen. The wizard opens and asks for the Tiling Method.
  2. Tap Contour Tiling (the description reads "Survey along an auto-highlighted contour for level fall"). The other choice, Standard Tiling, is the straight-line mode covered in the Tiling chapter.
  3. Tap Generate New Contours & Survey. (Use Load Existing Survey to design a tile from a route you already drove, or Load Existing Design to reopen and install a saved contour-tile design.)
  4. The app asks for a field surface. Choose Saved LiDAR DEM if you prepared one in LiDAR & Mapping, or use Saved Survey, Point File, GeoTIFF DEM, or Survey New Field. If no DEM is saved yet, open LiDAR & Mapping while online, save the DEM, reconnect to the controller, and return here.
  5. A Contour Settings dialog opens. Pick a contour interval from the preset chips (1″ / 2″ / 3″ / 6″ / 1 ft, default 3″; metric 25 / 50 / 75 / 150 / 300 mm, default 75 mm) or type a custom value; set the Smoothing slider (default Medium); for point files and GeoTIFFs, choose the source units (Meters / Feet). In Decimal Feet mode the same five presets read 0.08 / 0.17 / 0.25 / 0.5 / 1 ft — the same intervals, just relabeled. The estimated contour count updates as you adjust — it warns above 200. Tap Generate; a Generating contours... progress dialog runs while the contours build.
  6. The app draws the contour lines across the field on the map.
  7. Drive toward the contour your tile should follow. The nearest one highlights in bright teal — that's the active contour.
  8. Tap Start in the sidebar. The highlighted contour locks so the guidance won't jump to a neighbor mid-pass. Drive the tile line, keeping the steering lightbar centered.
  9. Tap Stop at the far end. The Tiling design dialog opens, built from the route you just drove.
  10. Set Target Depth, Min Depth, Max Depth, Min Grade — exactly like standard Tiling. Tap Apply Design.
  11. Calibrate the BM if prompted.
  12. Drive to the outlet end, lower the trencher, tap Start. The lightbar steers you back along your saved route; the blade holds the tile depth.
