The "Designed for a different kit" warning
Excavator chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.
In the app Manual › Excavator › The "Designed for a different kit" warning
What you see
When you open a workflow that doesn't match the control module currently connected, a warning dialog appears titled "Designed for a different kit". The body text explains the specific mismatch and offers two buttons.
This is a heads-up, not a hard stop. You can proceed if you know what you're doing — the warning is there because some of the app's features won't work the way you expect with the wrong kit.
The cases that trigger the warning
Case 1 — Excavator workflow + Ditch Assist Control Module.
The Excavator workflow is built around the DIG module, which reads bucket-tip position from sensors on the stick and bucket. The Ditch Assist Control Module doesn't have those sensors — it only sees your GPS antenna position. The consequences if you continue:
- Depth guidance tracks the antenna, not the bucket. Numbers on screen will be off by the antenna-to-bucket distance.
- Auto-grading commands have nowhere to go — the excavator's hydraulic circuit isn't wired to this module.
If you're trying to do excavator work with a Ditch Assist Control Module connected, you're probably better off either physically swapping to the DIG module, or going back and picking a different workflow that matches the kit you have.
Case 2 — Any scraper / blade workflow + DIG module.
Scraper modes (Ditching, Simple Grading, Land Forming, Tiling, Terracing, Leveling) send hydraulic commands to raise and lower a blade. The DIG module is a one-way GPS feed — it can read your bucket position from an excavator but it cannot command any hydraulic actuators. The consequences if you continue:
- You can still use the workflow for visual guidance and survey work (the GPS feed is fine).
- Auto-grading won't move anything — the blade-control commands have nowhere to go.
This case usually shows up when an operator with a DIG-equipped machine wants to use the survey or contour-guidance side of a scraper-flavoured workflow.
Case 3 — Excavation in Ditch Assist Lite with an Emlid Reach.
In Lite the app follows the Reach antenna, not the bucket tip — there are no excavator sensors. To check grade, stop and put the stick and bucket in the same position every time: the position you used when you calibrated. This is the only case that shows the warning in Lite.
The two buttons
- Pick Different — closes the wizard and returns to the Home screen so you can pick a workflow that matches your kit.
- Continue Anyway — dismisses the warning and proceeds into the workflow. The mismatch consequences above will apply.
It won't pester you again
Once you tap Continue Anyway, the warning is suppressed for that specific (workflow × controller) combination for the rest of your app session. Switch to a different workflow or a different controller and you may see a different mismatch warning — each combination is tracked separately.
The warning re-arms on app restart and on controller reconnect, so if you genuinely want a fresh confirmation next time you start the app, you'll get one.
When you won't see the warning
The warning only fires for real-controller mismatches. You will not see it in any of these situations:
- Simulator running (you're testing).
- Bluetooth GNSS connected (no hydraulic control either way — guidance only).
- Nothing connected yet (no kit to mismatch against).
Other workflows
While the warning is described here under Excavator because that's where it shows up most often, it works the same way for every scraper workflow paired with a DIG module — same dialog, same two buttons.
