Before you start

Excavator chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.

In the app Manual › Excavator › Before you start

Excavator mode needs:

  • RTK Fixed GPS.
  • A connection to a Ditch Assist control module (see below).
  • A surveyed route, or a saved design.

Control modules to choose from

The Excavator workflow's connect step uses controller auto-detect: a single Connect button probes the Ditch Assist control module and DIG over the network — DIG first in the Excavator workflow, then the control module, ordered first by which module's Wi-Fi network the tablet is on, about 1.5 seconds per probe — and connects to whichever answers. Below it sit Simulate and Bluetooth GPS buttons and a Manual Options expander that reveals the control module and DIG cards for direct selection.

  • Ditch Assist DIG — the excavator-specific module, and the usual pick. The DIG module already corrects its GPS feed to the bucket cutting edge in hardware; the app has no bucket-tip-height setting and nothing to measure.
  • Ditch Assist Control Module — can be connected directly inside the Excavator workflow (via Connect or Manual Options). Expect the Designed for a different kit warning, because the module reads the antenna, not the bucket.

The DIG card is not excavator-only — it appears under Manual Options in every workflow and in the Home Pre-Flight panel. If you are running DIG, see Connecting to the Ditch Assist DIG module on the next page for the WiFi join and the connect step.

Why the module still has to be connected

The module relays GPS positions to the tablet. Without that link, the app has no GPS — and without GPS, no chevrons and no depth display. The difference from Ditching is that the valve command channel is not used in Excavator mode — the app reads GPS, draws depth guidance, and never moves a blade. The DIG module has no valve command channel at all.

No multi-pass / no Auto-Nudge

Excavator dig is single-pass. The Est. Passes badge does not appear in the design dialog, and the Auto-Nudge prompt is skipped after Implement. If you want multi-pass behavior, you've picked the wrong mode — switch to Ditching.
