Picking up yesterday's work — Resume Job
Excavator chapter of the Ditch Assist app manual. The same text is in the app under Manual.
In the app Manual › Excavator › Picking up yesterday's work — Resume Job
What this is for
Long excavator jobs run across multiple days. Resume Job is the one-tap way to bring back everything that was on screen when you stopped yesterday — the imported design, every cell you marked complete, your nudge offset, your benchmark calibration, the achieved-grade overlay, the Dig Level Area anchor and target if you set them.
You do not have to manually save. The app saves the job automatically:
- Every time you tap Stop.
- When you tap Hold.
- Every time you leave the workflow (switch tabs, close the app, lifecycle pause).
- About every 10 minutes during active Excavator grading when progress has changed, preferring a non-precision moment and using a backstop if needed.
Hold, lifecycle, and checkpoint triggers within 30 seconds of the last save are skipped (a debounce). Stop always attempts a final save. There is no save button to remember to press. Just tap Stop when you're done — that guarantees the latest state is on disk — walk away, and Resume tomorrow.
How to enter — from the workflow wizard
- Tap the Excavation card on the Home screen.
- In the wizard, tap Resume Job. Description reads "Continue a saved excavator job — design and marked cells restored."
- The saved-jobs picker opens, filtered to excavator jobs only.
- Pick the job you want to resume. The list groups by date so yesterday's work sits at the top.
When the job loads:
- The design (LandXML surface, Slope-IQ design, or Dig Level Area target) is reapplied.
- The map re-colours with the elevation gradient or cut/fill heatmap.
- Every completion-grid mark you made is restored in green.
- Your nudge offset, benchmark calibration, and any leveling anchor are restored.
- The achieved-grade overlay from your last session shows the trench depth where you'd already reached grade.
How to enter — from inside the workflow
There is also a Resume button in the sidebar that appears when you're inside the Excavator Grade tab but no design is loaded yet. It opens the same picker. Use this if you've already entered the workflow and don't want to back out to the wizard.
If the controller / GPS environment has changed
If you've moved the RTK base or you're working in a fresh GPS session, you may need to recalibrate the benchmark before continuing. Drop the bucket on a known control point, tap the BM badge, and use Advanced → Zero to current GPS (or a reference row's Calibrate button) to recalibrate. Everything else — the design, the marks, the anchor — stays as it was.
